Lithuania is one of Europe's most forested countries. Over a third of the land is covered in it. Before Christianity, we held our gods in these trees — the groves were our temples.
Today, those forests are shrinking. Clear-cutting accelerated through the 2010s. Old-growth stands are being logged faster than they can regenerate. The forests that gave this brand its entire visual and cultural identity are, quite literally, disappearing.
The Grove is what we are building to do something about it.
THE GROVE IS NAKTÌBALDA'S OWN FOUNDATION FOR LITHUANIAN OLD-GROWTH FORESTS. IT DOES NOT EXIST YET. THE GROUNDWORK IS UNDER WAY — LEGAL REGISTRATION, PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS, LAND IDENTIFICATION.
WHEN IT LAUNCHES, IT WILL BE A SMALL, FOCUSED, LITHUANIAN-ONLY INITIATIVE. NOT A GLOBAL FUND. NOT A GREENWASHING LINE-ITEM. A REAL, REGISTERED NON-PROFIT WITH PUBLIC ACCOUNTS.
A FIXED PERCENTAGE OF EVERY SALE WILL BE DIRECTED TO THE GROVE. NOT A ROUNDING ERROR. NOT A CHECKBOX AT CHECKOUT. AN AUTOMATIC, UNCONDITIONAL ALLOCATION ON EVERY PIECE SOLD.
WHEN YOU BUY SOMETHING FROM NAKTÌBALDA, A PORTION OF IT ALWAYS GOES TO THE FOREST. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO OPT IN. IT IS ALREADY IN THE PRICE.
We could have launched this page with fake numbers — trees planted, acres saved, partner logos we don't have. We did not. The Grove does not exist yet. The work to make it real is happening in the background. When the first Euro moves, we will say so. Until then, this page stands as a public promise.
